John 4:3-9 "The Lord Jesus left Judea, and departed again into Galilee. And He must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh He to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son, Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there, Jesus, therefore being wearied with His journey, sat by the well and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said unto her, give me to drink. For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then saith the woman of Samaria unto Him, how is it that Thou, being a Jew, askest a drink of me, who am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans."
The Lord Jesus must go through Samaria.
Why must He?
It is to do the Father's will that He must
"needs go through Samaria."
The Jews did not usually take that route to get to Cana of Galilee because they disliked the Samaritans, but the Lord Jesus chose to go that way. There He and His disciples came to Jacob's well and because the Lord Jesus was weary, He sat down and rested while the disciples went into the town to buy something for them to eat.
John tells us that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Lord Jesus was truly human and He felt the heat just as we do.
While He sat there, a woman from Samaria came to draw water.
She was a woman of ill repute but Lord Jesus wanted to reach her.
That was the very reason that He had come this way.
Notice how very gently the Lord Jesus speaks to her.
He asks her for some water to drink.
He asked a favor of her.
He who is the water of Life, asked her for a drink of water.
The Jews would not even drink from the same vessel as a Samaritan.
This shows us clearly the humility of our Saviour.
He went to the lowest place to meet her need.
Our Lord Jesus Christ asked her to give Him a vessel of water.
Dear reader, I know also by experience that the Lord Jesus Christ is gentle, meek, and lowly. He is filled with love and compassion and it reminds me of this prayer my Mother taught me as a child
Gentle Jesus meek and mild, Look upon a little child;
Pity my simplicity. Suffer me to come to Thee.
Lamb of God , I look to Thee, Thou shalt my example be:
Thou art gentle meek and mild, Thou was once a little child.
Fain I would be as Thou art, Give me Thine obedient heart,
Thou art pitiful and kind, Let me have Thy loving mind.
Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb, In Thy gracious hands I am;
Make me, Saviour, what Thou art, Live Thyself within my heart.
I shall then show forth Thy praise, Serve Thee all my happy days;
Then the world shall always see Christ, the Holy child in me.
Thanks: Losinda.
Amen!
I can say with great joy this day that the Lord Jesus Christ is full of grace and mercy and truth and that He is just waiting for us, wherever we are and in whatever condition we are in, to reach out and to touch the hem of His garment. We can just look up, at any time, and He will find us - if we will allow ourselves to be found of Him. Dear reader, He wants to do something for you.
I
sought the Lord, and afterward I knew
He moved my soul
to seek Him, seeking me;
It was not I that found, O Saviour true;
No,
I was found of Thee.
Thou didst reach forth Thy hand and mine enfold;
I walked and sank not on the stormvexed sea;
'Twas not
so much that I on Thee took hold,
As Thou, O Lord, on me.
I find, I walk, I love; but O the whole
Of love is but my answer, Lord, to Thee!
For Thou wert long beforehand with my soul;
Always Thou lovedst me.

Our Lord appealed to this woman's curiosity.
John 4:10-12 "Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldst have asked Him, and He would have given thee living water, The woman saith unto Him, Sir, Thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast Thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?"
Notice how this woman's attitude changes.
She calls Him, "Sir."
She could only think about the water that was deep down in the well.
Many people today are looking for the water holes in this world.
They are constantly looking for physical satisfaction and they do not
ever think about anything spiritual.
They never think about the life hereafter.
They never think about God.
Our Lord Jesus Christ created a desire in this woman's heart for that which is spiritual.
She wanted the living water.
God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Now she is thirsty, and she asks Him to give her the Living water but first, there is a condition to be met.
Our Lord Jesus asked her to go and call her husband.
He wanted her to recognize that she is a sinner.
She now became quite touchy, even flippant actually, and said that she has had five husbands and the man she was now living with was not her husband.
When we come to the Lord Jesus for salvation, He insists that we tell Him all our secrets.
He wants us to deal with our own sin.
This woman was shocked into reverence and she tried to open a religious argument.
But our Lord never avoided the issue of personal sin.
He always has the solution for this woman and for us.
He dealt with this woman through her own question.
John 4:23-24 "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth: For the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."
This woman now had a deep longing in her heart for God.
John 4:25-26 "The woman saith unto Him, I know that Messiah cometh, who is called Christ: When He is come, He will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am He."
How marvelous this is, this woman came face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ, the very Messiah.
He who is the very one and only Saviour, of the world.
Have you met the Saviour?
Once you have met the Saviour, it is irrelevant where you worship God.
It is not where you worship Him that matters but rather how you worship Him that is important.
You no longer need to run to any place, true worshippers worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.
We have to come before Him in truth. He knows every detail of our lives and nothing that we have ever done or are doing is ever hidden from His eye. It is for us to acknowledge the truth about ourselves to ourselves. There is just no other way other than the truth for Christ Jesus is the truth and when we come to Him, His glorious Light shines into the darkest corner of our hearts.
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).
Someday we will see the Lord Jesus and we will see the nail prints in His hands and the wound in His side. Then we will understand what it cost Him to redeem us. We will truly sing with great joy in our hearts To God be all the glory - with His own blood He bought us.
Face to face with Christ my Saviour, Face to face what will it be?
When with rapture I behold Him, Jesus Christ who died for me.
Face to face I shall behold Him, Far beyond the starry sky:
Face to face in all His glory, I shall see Him by and by.
Only faintly now I see Him, With the darkling veil between,
But a blessed day is coming, WHEN HIS GLORY SHALL BE SEEN.
Face to face I shall behold Him, Far beyond the starry sky,
Face to face in all His glory, I shall see Him by and by.
What rejoicing in His presence, When are banished grief and pain;
When the crooked ways are straightened, And the dark things shall be plain.
Face to face I shall behold Him, Far beyond the starry sky,
Face to face in all His glory, I shall see Him by and by.
Face to face - O blissful moment! Face to face - To see and know;
Face to face with my Redeemer, Jesus Christ who loves me so.
Face to face I shall behold Him, Far beyond the starry sky,
Face to face in all His glory, I shall see Him by and by.
Will you also see Him by and by?
Please may I this day beseech you in Christ Jesus my Lord, to make a decision, to receive Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord and one day soon I hope, we shall together, meet Him in the air.
The reason our Lord went through Samaria was to do the Father's will. Listen to Him answer His disciples
John 4:34 "Jesus said unto them My meat is to to the will of Him that sent sent Me, and to finish His work."
This woman became a living witness of the marvelous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
His living water came flowing through her as she ran back to the town to tell the people to come to Jesus
"Come see a Man."
This woman turned in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ and He accepted her and forgave her all of her sins.
She told the truth about herself. She acknowledged her sin and He filled her with His Living water.
She ran to tell others to come to the Saviour and in so doing, many Samaritans were brought to the Lord Jesus and many of them believed on our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 4:39 "And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on Him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did."
Our Lord used this woman with a very shady past, to bring many souls to Himself.
Will you let Him also use you in His great work of reaching the whole world with the message of the Gospel?
Christ is the Gospel and the only thing we need to do is to bring the lost to Him.
We need to bring the lost to the Saviour, bring them with all their sin and all their questions. Our Lord Jesus will, if they desire Him, remove the blindfold from their eyes so that they will be able to see themselves as He sees them. This is the moment of truth and no one who has faced the truth about themselves after Christ has removed the blindfold is ever the same again. They are born-from-above, their sins are washed away, and they have been redeemed. Christ's righteousness is imputed to them for they are now a part of His great family of blood bought believers. You see dear reader Christ is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can ever come to the father accept through Him and when we are born-again, we have our Fathers nature and therefore we walk in the Holy Spirit, who is the truth. We are in Christ for He is our way and He gives unto us Eternal life. He is Himself Eternal Life.
All secrets are unveiled, and the peace of the Lord Jesus fills the heart so that we can relax in Him -
Never to be intimidated by the past ever again or by any other person.
If the only Saviour of the world knows everything about us, and He has washed all our sins away, then the joy of salvation - which is Christ Jesus inside us, floods our hearts, our souls, and our minds and we can rest in Him for ever. For
"He shall feed His flock like a Shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young" (Isaiah 40:11).
Please will you not open your heart to the Lord Jesus right now, He is longing to meet you right now.
I will sing the wondrous story
Of the Christ who died for me,
How He left His home in glory,
For the cross of Calvary.
Yes I'll sing the wondrous story of the Christ who died for me,
Sing it with the Saints in glory, Gathered by the crystal sea.
I was lost but Jesus found me,
Found the sheep that went astray,
Threw His loving arms around me,
Drew me back into His way.
I was bruised but Jesus healed me,
Faint was I from many a fall,
Sight was gone, And fears possessed me,
But He freed me from them all.
Days of darkness still come o'er me,
Sorrows path I often tread,
But the Saviour still is with me,
By His hand I'm safely led.
He will keep me till the river,
Rolls it's water at my feet
Then He'll bear me safely over,
Where the loved ones I shall meet.
